Construction Update

We visited our construction site last Saturday and construction is going well although things have slowed down due to heavy afternoon rains and our builder has concentrated mostly on the swimming pool. He tells us he intends to deliver the guest house by the end of this month. I think he might miss by a [...]

Sold our house!

Well, wouldn’t you know it, we’ve already sold our house! And I was afraid it would take a while… As a bonus, they well let us stay in the house until January, couldn’t have asked for a more convenient deal.

Lakefront Cottage for sale

We are putting our cottage up for sale. You can find more details here.
Here are some pictures.

Ottawa Blues Cruise

This weekend my wife and I, along with 10 of our friends, are going on the Ottawa Blues Cruise. This should be fun: an old Mississippi-style paddle-wheel boat on the Ottawa river, an old Mississippi-style blues man and his band, and a local Cajun band. The whole thing will end with the boat positioned to [...]

An excellent map of Panama

If you’ve ever tried to find a good map of Panama, you most likely came off disappointed. They are difficult to find, and most are not very good at all.
There is one map of Panama that is excellent. Well, it is actually a map of Costa Rica on one side, and Panama on the other. [...]

Arthur C. Clarke, dead at age 90.

One of my biggest heroes, Arthur C. Clarke, died yesterday at age 90.

As a writer, Arthur C Clarke stood alongside Robert A Heinlein and Issac Asimov as one of the fathers of the science fiction genre. Although best known for 2001: A Space Odyssey, famously adpated for film by Stanley Kubrick, Clarke had the prolific [...]

We got some snow…

We’re on track to break the record for the worst winter. The previous record was 444 centimetres of snow, and we’re now up to 408 cm, including 80 cm (that’s 32 inches for you Yankees with the medieval measuring system) in the last week alone.
There is so much snow that the guy who normally ploughs [...]

Saudi Arabia’s Barbarism

This is mind boggling. You really should read the case of Fawza Falih.
She has been condemned to death. By beheading.
She has been beaten to the point of hospitalization during her incarceration.
The authorities have a signed confession, which she has not had read to her.
She didn’t read what she signed, either, because she’s illiterate.
She and her [...]

Muslim Fundamentalists sinking to new lows

Reports from Iraq say that the two women suicide bombers involved in the attack this morning had Down’s Syndrome, and were detonated remotely.
If this is true, it is shockingly appalling, demonstrating that Muslim Extremists will stop at nothing. I suspect this will play against them, as moderate Muslims are sure to revolt against this type [...]

Dental Implant

I had a dental implant surgically installed yesterday to replace a tooth I lost a long time ago.
This is a follow up to my long orthodontic treatment that just ended before Christmas. Yes I finally had the braces removed after 4 years and 3 months! What a great feeling that was.
But then I needed to [...]
