Panama’s Sarigua National Park

We unfortunately had to cancel our trip to Coiba Island after our boat ride became unavailable. So instead we spent three days exploring the Azuero Peninsula of Panama, and it was well worth it. What a beautiful place that is, with extremely varied landscape that includes rain-forest covered mountains, rolling plains, a desert wasteland, and gorgeous beaches.
We only explored a small portion of the peninsula and ended up spending the better part of two days in a wonderful place called La Playita Resort. I will post some pictures and details of this place in a future post.
We also spent a couple of hours at the desert wasteland of Sarigua National park and despite arriving there too late in the morning to take advantage of the best light, I still managed to get 20 decent shots which you can find in this gallery: Sarigua National Park

I love the Azuero Peninsula. I bought some land there, near Tonosi at the very tip, on my first trip to Panama back in 2005. I have since sold it because of my project in Rovira Arriba, but I still plan on doing something in the Azuero Peninsula in the future.
I am following your home construction in this blog and it looks like it is going to be beautiful.
Hi!
We have been following your construction blog and quite enjoy it. We also agree about the beauty of the Azuero Peninsula, we bought land just south of Pedasi, with a gorgeous ocean view, and the surroundings look just like Tuscany. We are in the process of designing a small house with another family and hope to acquire some knowledgable info by following your blog. We loved Panama, and also bought on our first visit this January, 2008 during our 3 weeks there. The Azuero area struck us the most. Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks all.
I would probably buy some land on the peninsula if my finances weren’t already all committed to my project and Palmex Panama. Although I’m quite happy where I am in Altos del Maria, as it is gorgeous and conveniently located near the city and 30 minutes to the pacific beaches.
Sieg, you might want to hurry up as the prices on the Peninsula are going up fast! Many celebrities and American developers have been snapping up all the beach-front properties. How’s Roca Milagro coming along?
Shelley and Kevin: Good luck with your project, sounds like you are building yourself a nice little piece of paradise! Let me know how it goes. Glad you are finding my blog useful.
Sylvain, so glad you were able to spend some time in the Azuero. We stayed at Playita last October & enjoyed it immensely. I hope you were able to spend some time with owner Lester Knight- a fascinating personality.
Hi Gordo. Yes we met witht he owner, fascinating character! I was surprised to hear that he designed all of the arts & crafts that he incorporated in his little resort. Iwould have have bet money that a woman had to be involved in it!
Lester is, as you may know, a former professional jockey, & resident of Indiana. Here is a link to his resort website that includes some photos of the resort, Lestor, & those wonderful macaws that freely fly throughout the resort:

Did you know he’s building 12 more rooms?
