We got some snow…

We’re on track to break the record for the worst winter. The previous record was 444 centimetres of snow, and we’re now up to 408 cm, including 80 cm (that’s 32 inches for you Yankees with the medieval measuring system) in the last week alone.

There is so much snow that the guy who normally ploughs our dirt road couldn’t cope with it and had to call in a full-scale grader.

This is our road before the last 30 cm came down:

This is our road after the last storm:

This is our road after a back-hoe managed to open part of it. The snowbanks are taller than my car, and this is normally a two-lane road!

This is the grader that got stuck while trying to clear one of the side roads. Amazingly, he managed to pull himself out of that.

Here’s a couple more pics for effect.

For some, 2007-2008 is the worst Canadian winter. For me, it’s the best one ever! Great skiing and snoshoeing, a lot of fun with the kids, gorgeous scenaries, all that with very few days bellow -20C! How can you beat that?

No wonder you want to move to panama. Me, I’d move further north just to make sure that I live it again.

With the current worldwide climate changes, there are good chances that there won’t be another one like this… a shame.

Don’t you think it’s weird that you’re a Anti-Global Warming militant (tragicplanet.org) and at the same time pest against “normally cold and snowy” canadian winters?

In my book, the worst winter was 2006-2007; Rain instead of snow. Now that’s bad.

Le temps des sucres, c’est dans la neige, pas dans la boue!

    Salut Pat!

I like snow as much as the next guy, but this is getting ridiculous! Took two days before we could get out of the lake, and every trip down that now single-lane road is a nerve wracking experience.

You state a good point… not being able to drive out for 2 weeks = bad.

I just think that the “We’re on track to break the record for the worst winter.” is a bit harsh. :)

“We’re on track to break the record for the worst road maintenance winter.”

    Hehe….
