Muslim Fundamentalists sinking to new lows

Reports from Iraq say that the two women suicide bombers involved in the attack this morning had Down’s Syndrome, and were detonated remotely.

If this is true, it is shockingly appalling, demonstrating that Muslim Extremists will stop at nothing. I suspect this will play against them, as moderate Muslims are sure to revolt against this type of abomination. Well, at least I hope so…

It’s a mistake to refer to these terrorists as Muslim Fundamentalists. I live in Panama and I consider myself a Muslim fundamentalist in the sense that I try to practice the fundamentals of Islam: prayer, fasting, charity, kindness to neighbors and racial equality. I was stunned and horrified to read about the recent bombing in Iraq. Anyone who would do such a thing has truly lost their soul and is no more a Muslim than I am a Martian. Please don’t equate their actions with Islam or imply that what they do has anything to do with being Muslim.

I Wael, I agree that “extremists” would have been more appropriate then “fundamentalists” in this case.

And I certainly wasn’t trying to equate these people with the average Muslims and I am sorry if that is what you got our of my post. As I like to say, equating the Extremists to the average Muslims is like equating the KKK (a Christian organization) with the average Christian. I have many Muslim friends and co-workers and they are all very nice and loving people, and like them, I am angry at what extremists are doing to their religion.

However, we may differ on the definition of fundamentalist. To me, the fundamentalists are the folks who will beat, shun, or kill a woman because she was raped and “dishonoured” the family. It is also the folks who want to kill someone for becoming a non-believer, for calling a pet Muhammad, for publishing a cartoon of Muhammad, or for saying anything negative about Islam. I could give you many more examples like that. And to me, if you are not living by Sharia law, you’re not what I would call a Muslim Fundamentalist at all.

These people seem to be getting louder and getting more airtime all the time, and that is very unfortunate as they are doing a disservice to all moderate Muslims like yourself, and giving a really bad name to Islam.

And BTW, I personally dislike all organized religions. I think they are all about controlling and abusing people, and they too often lead good people to do bad things in the name of their religion, like discriminating against others. Even the Christians who preach the message of their beloved Jesus (love thy neighbour and thy enemy), tend to be highly divisive and discriminatory toward people who don’t share their particular beliefs and values.
