Construction Update

Construction is moving well and it is exciting to see the quick progress. Here’s a picture (click ofr a larger version) of the guest house, the part that is furthest along:

The foundation of the bohio (round gazebo) is all done and they are ready to pour the floor. You can see the pipes for the [...]

Low-cost Living in Panama

Here’s a nice article on Panama and Altos del Maria:
Low-Cost Living

Back in Paradise

Having just yesterday left a Canada in the midst of one of the worst winters on record, it is a very nice feeling to wakeup on a warm sunny morning in the beautiful and lush mountains of Altos del Maria. Looks like it will be a nice day, and we plan to chill-out by the [...]

Going back to Panama

We’re leaving tomorrow morning for another 2 weeks in Panama, my sixth trip in one and a half year. We will spend the first week in Altos del Maria, relaxing, checking out the progress on our house, meeting with our friends. We will spend most of the second week in Panama City, shopping for tiles, [...]

She didn’t read what she signed, either, because she’s illiterate.
She and her [...]

Paradise Found

She chose her destinations very wisely to make the best of her short two week trip and her account gives you a nice feel [...]

The War on Tolerance

This Morning Truthdig published an excellent column titled “The War on Tolerance“, by Chris Edges. Chris is a former New York Times bureau chief who spent 7 years in the Middle-East, he has a Christian religious background, and he speaks Arabic, so he has a good idea what he’s talking about. In this OpEd piece, [...]

Construction is progressing

I received a few more pictures of our construction in Altos del Maria, Panama.
Things are progressing well.
Here’s a view of the top of the driveway. You can see the beginning of the guest house on the left, and the foundation for the bohio on the right. There will be a parking area between the two.

Altos del Maria Community on Ning

Over the weekend I discovered a new website called Ning. It is a new twist on social networking sites like MySpace and FaceBook. Rather then being one huge social network, it enables you to easily create your very own more focussed social network.
So as an experiment, I decided to try it out by creating a [...]
