The mass media at it again

The media is once again showing its total ineptitude today. I’m watching TV this morning and no matter what news broadcast I tune to, they are spending 75% of their time on the death of Heath Ledger.
Now don’t get me wrong, he was a brilliant young actor and his death is tragic. But his death is no more tragic than that of any other decent human being. He was just another fallible human being trying to earn a living, and he just happened to have a talent for acting. He was not a god or a special human being worthy of worship.

Typical American news broadcast (sorry Duffie, but I’d wager serious jack that Murdock has most of Canada’s media in his back pocket too, hence the substance):
“We know you’re havin’ tough times out there folks: Crazy weather, unemployment, Dubya sendin’ your kids off to Iraq as cannon-fodder, but’s let’s focus on the important thing…What does Britney Spears make of all this? We’ll have our fifteenth story today about her; a live interview from her jail cell, right after this message about regrowing your hair.”
Edward R. Murrow wept.
