Ron Paul is a Wacko

I have a few friends in the US and in Canada who support Ron Paul’s bid for the Presidency. They apparently support him because they agree with his libertarian ideology. But I don’t think they know who he really is.
First of all, Ron Paul is another religious nutcase who rejects evolution. The last thing we need is another President who rejects science, truth, and reality, and thinks he’s guided by God.
Second, he is also a racist and a bigot who has been publishing his inflammatory views for many years.
This is sad because I agree with Paul’s stance on the war in Iraq and he seems to understand the Muslim world a little bit better than the average American politician. But I don’t really care about a politician’s ideology if he is a racist, a bigot, and anti-science… He could have the best political platform in the history of mankind, I still wouldn’t vote for him.

Agreed. Wacko. The only thing I would add is that he and other marginalized candidates such as Dennis Kucinich add substance to the political commentary & debate, and their voices need to be heard, whether you agree with them on an issue by issue basis or not.
Unfortunately Gordo, your opinion - which parallels mine on free speech and open political debate - is in the ever-shrinking minority. The disciples who follow “the vision of the anointed” likes of Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are in the process of deciding for us which opinions will be heard and which won’t. This is always dangerous, because once the right to oppress has been granted government, whoever granted it will inevitably be oppressed by it.
Some allegedly “enlightened” individuals totally fail to grok this underwhelmingly near-fetched concept!
For whatever it’s worth, another article appeared in “Free Republic” tentatively identifying Paul’s former Chief of Staff Llewellyn H. Rockwell as the possible author of many of the most contemptible items that appeared there.

Would that really change anything though? The articles were still published in Paul’s newsletters. Newsletters bearing his name. So either he agreed with them, or else he didn’t read his own newsletters and that makes him an incompetent idiot.
Galt: re. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins. I don’t follow your point. Dawkins and Harris are fully behind free speech. What they are against is the mixing of religion and government, and the teaching of religion in science classes.
They are very wise and 100% correct on both counts.
They’re behind free speech, as long as it’s what they want to hear being said (a/k/a “politically correct”).
BTW, I don’t think I’d be referring to a progressive Baptist as a “religious nutcase” as they list further to port ideologically than you do…Which is quite an accomplishment.
Give me one example of Dawkins or Harris coming out against free speech.
Download and read The Irrational Atheist by Ted Beale off the Vox Day site. He makes the case for me times googleplex squared.
Bottom line is, if you’re gonna knock God and His Word, you better be perfect.
You are again making a comment on a post that is unrelated.
You are not being honest about this book, since you haven’t read it yet, it will not be available until February!!! Typical dishonest religionist twisting the truth to fit his faith. I’m also pretty certain you have never read Dawkins, Harris, or Dennett. HILARIOUS!!!
I also doubt very much that this book will sway me, if the bottom line is as you say: “if you’re gonna knock God and His Word, you better be perfect.”
Where is the word of god? I haven’t seen it. It is certainly not the bible, nor any other magic book written by men. The premise here is that the bible tells the truth, which is pretty clear it does not. This type of argument, even if pretending to be based in rationality, is highly unlikely to be so. It is most likely based on impressive-sounding but logically flawed arguments that only naive and already-converted believers like you can buy, as you pre-accept the false premise and are incapable of applying critical thinking to your faith. It is purely wishful thinking.
BTW, I’m not knocking god, I just don’t believe he exists. But I am knocking religion. If there is a deity out there, it is certainly not the brutal, vengeful, egomaniac, misogynistic, racist, divisive, temperamental, and childish god that men invented and described in the bible.
And what exactly makes your faith more believable than the thousands of others out there, other than the fact that you have been brainwashed with it since you were a kid? If you had been born in a different part of the world, you would have a different faith and yet would be just as utterly convinced of having the “right” one.
I’m sorry but this is laughable.
Just as I thought, after doing a bit of research on “Vox Day” and some of his other writings, he just uses false logic and manufactured truth all over the place, the type that naive Christians buy hook line and sinker because it suits their faith.
I also found this pretty good critic of Vox Day:
http://atheism.about.com/b/2003/11/18/the-irrational-atheist.htm
Here’s a good excerpt:
“Actually, if you go back through Day’s article and read it closely, you’ll find that pretty much everything he accuses atheists of, he is guilty of doing himself - often right at the very point that he is making his accusations. There’s a word for this: it’s called hypocrisy. Vox Day is, unquestionably, a hypocrite. He’s also quite ignorant about the most basic issues he tries to discuss. He doesn’t know anything about atheism - he tries, for example, to contrast atheism with religion which is simplistic nonsense.”
From what I’ve seen of your arguments so far, this also describes you to a “T”.
And please stop that crap about atheists being immoral or perverts, you have zero understanding of what an atheist is. All you know is the irrational, self-serving and divisive rhetoric you hear from your fellow religionists. I happen to have very high moral standards and so do most of my friends who happen to be atheists too. They are the most honest, humane, gentle and tolerant people I know (can’t say the same about you given what little I already know about you, you appear to be dishonest and intolerant of those who don’t don’t share your beliefs). We believe this is the only life we get and therefore it is very precious and we must make it meaningful. We also believe that because of this, ALL life is precious, no matter what race, gender, creed, or species! Our morality comes from within, not from an imaginary friend with a big stick over our head.
Look at the most secular societies in the world, they are the most peaceful and tolerant places on the planet, with the smallest levels of crime and poverty. Look at the USA in contrast: the most religious country in the developed world, and also the most brutal, the one with some of the highest violent crime rates and divorce rates, lots of racism and discrimination, and with the biggest disparity between the rich and the poor. Even within the USA itself, the bible-belt States are the worst at this. The atheist population in US jail is a fraction of what it should be given the percentage of the general population that is atheist. Stats show that divorce rates amongst atheist are half the overall average, so much for Christian values uh? So stop the self-serving hypocrisy. Stop buying and repeating all the crap you here and don’t understand. Start using your own brain and do some critical thinking for a change. There are good and bad people on both sides of the religious coin.
So please don’t lecture me on morality. I have helped many people in my life, sometimes putting my own life on the line through UN humanitarian missions, and at other times through pure personal actions on the street. I have never hurt another person or animal in my life. I am compassionate and I treat EVERYONE the same way, no matter what their race, creed, or sexual orientation.
Please don’t waste any more of my time with this kind of religiously motivated crap.
