Christmas in Panama

I’m back in Panama for a week and this will be my first Christmas in the tropics! With all the warm weather, palm trees, and tropical forest it doesn’t look or feel like Christmas at all. But that doesn’t bother me since I have gotten off the Christmas bandwagon a long time ago. I think we’ve all been hopelessly brainwashed in over consuming this time of year and I’m no longer part of this cycle for retail madness.

While in Panama I will be taking care of some business as well as just relaxing with some friends and enjoying a nice break from the Canadian winter. Unfortunately the dry season is late arriving to Panama. Due to the “La Nena” phenomena off the Pacific coast of South America, circulation patterns are altered and it is keeping the dry northerly winds from taking hold. Funny thing is that the rain pattern is not even tropical: instead of the usual afternoon thunderstorms and heavy downpours, we’re getting hours of moderate but steady rain! Still, we get sun in the morning and the weather is pleasantly warm. Unfortunately, this also means that the excavation work for my house has not restarted yet, and probaly won’t until after the holidays!

Happy Holidays to all of you, and whether or not you celebrate Christmas, may you all have a pleasant break with your family over these next few days!
