Panama to extend property tax exemption

The government of Panama has decided to extend the registration period for the 20 year property tax exemption until the end of 2009. You need to get your construction permit before December 31st 2009, and the house needs to be completed and registered by December 31st 2011.
Don’t forget to file the paperwork if you want [...]

Oscar Peterson dead at 82

I just found out that while I was down in Panama, one of the last Jazz legends passed away.
Oscar Peterson was one of the greatest Jazz pianists ever and most certainly the greatest Canadian Jazz musician that ever lived. He was one of the last great legends from the heydays of Jazz in the [...]

Construction has restarted

Now that the dry season has finally arrived, they have restarted construction work on our Panama house. As you can see in the following picture, they are pouring the driveway to give themselves a good base to climb up our steep lot.

We basically lost two months right off the bat, but it’s good to finally [...]

The dry season is finally here!

The dry season has finally arrived, just like flicking a switch! On December 25th it rained for most of the day but in the evening we could feel the wind beginning to turn northerly. We woke up on the 26th to a gorgeous blue sky and the same thing again today. The northerly winds seem [...]

The New York Times just released their list of 53 places to visit in 2008 and Play Blanca, Panama is on it!
22. PLAYA BLANCA, PANAMA
Playa Blanca is about to hit the tabloids. Nikki Beach, the très chic beach club in South Beach and St.-Tropez, is opening a gated resort in the once-quiet fishing village on [...]

Harper and Bush’s little plan to ruin the planet.

As a follow-on to my previous post on our little Canadian Dictator and his position on Global Warming, here’s a very nice little explanation of what is really going on, courtesy of DeSmogBlog.
If you owned a distillery, you would probably not be in favour of prohibition.
So it is little wonder why Harper is apposed to [...]

Harper must be removed from power, fast.

I am appalled by our Prime Minister’s behaviour on the environment. Clearly, he is driven purely by the money boom in his own Province of Alberta where the race to exploit the oil sands faster is causing billions of dollars to flow into the province. But oil sands processing is causing an environmental disaster of [...]
