The Golden Frogs of Panama

Golden FrogOver the last couple of years a deadly fungus has been spreading across Panama, killing most species of frogs, including the beloved Golden Frog. Population levels are declining fast as the fungus causes the frogs to grow more skin, causing them to suffocate as they normally breath through their skin.

This short video by National Geographic discusses some of the conservation efforts that are being deployed to try and save the frogs.

They bascially have to remove the frogs from their environment, place them in a controlled environment, and breed them until a solution can be found.

I cannot believe the efforts these people are going through to save the species of frog. It really makes me happy just to know that someone out there is trying.

    Hi Maidine, indeed!

But every species are part of the web of life, and important. Every time a single species disappears, it disrupts the delicate balance, and countless other species.
