Nikon has been doing great in the DSLR market for the last couple of years. They’ve been selling everything they make and they are building new plants to meet the demand. They are doing particularly well in the beginner cameras with the D40/D40x/D50 but they are also doing very well in the advanced cameras (D80) and in the semi-pro market (D200). The new D300 and D3 that were just announced should keep this momentum going.
This article describes how Nikon has a 47% market share in Japan, but recent numbers from North America show a similar trend here.
