New Respect for Dick Cheney

Wow, I have just gained a whole lot of respect for Cheney. Turns out that way back in 1994, he already knew why it would be a very bad idea to invade Iraq. Too bad he forgot it all by the time he became VP.
Because if we’d gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone. There wouldn’t have been anybody else with us. There would have been a U.S. occupation of Iraq. None of the Arab forces that were willing to fight with us in Kuwait were willing to invade Iraq.
Once you got to Iraq and took it over, took down Saddam Hussein’s government, then what are you going to put in its place? That’s a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government of Iraq, you could very easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off: part of it, the Syrians would like to have to the west, part of it — eastern Iraq — the Iranians would like to claim, they fought over it for eight years. In the north you’ve got the Kurds, and if the Kurds spin loose and join with the Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey.
It’s a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq.

That’s why I call it “clustIraq”; a quaint little wayside police-action with an open end to insure a virtually endless river of largesse from the public fund into the pockets of President (am)Bush’s banker buddies and Papist munitions manufacturers, while also creating obscene profits for his oil company middlemen backers.
If you find the way Dubya is fighting “The War On Ter-r” (TWOT for short) a bit confusing, you’re not alone. Most sane people do.
Even Reagan Conservatives and Democrats realize his “strategery” is akin to FDR responding to the bombing of Pearl Harbor by invading China.
It doesn’t make any sense…Unless you follow the money!
Ya see SD, back in those days, “Shooter” Dick wasn’t in politics, so he could still shoot straight.
