Kicking myself

I am really kicking myself for not bringing my big 50-500mm zoom lens with me. The last two times I came to Panama I barely used it at all and since we were trying to travel lighter this time around, I decided to leave it home.

Well, turns out the house we are renting is nested near the top of a mountain, overlooking a beautiful rainforest valley, and there are tons of birds to be seen! Had I brought the big gun with me, I could have sat on the patio and taken hundreds of pictures of dozens of different species of birds.

I did manage to use my 150mm macro lens with a 1.4x magnifier to take a few handheld shots of the bigger birds, but I am missing on a huge opportunity here!

Panama has close to a thousand species of birds (a lot of North American and South American birds migrate through the isthmus), and it looks like a large proportion of them can be seen from our rental house!

Here is a crappy pictre of two different birds on a tree in front of the hosue. This was taken handheld, at dusk, on a foggy evening, and cropped heavily, so the quality is very poor.
