Visit with our architect

On Monday we drove down to Panama City to meet with our architect and go over the blueprints. We reviewed the layouts and elevation as well as the electrical drawings. We asked for several minor changes as everything is getting really close to what we want.

On Friday we will meet with him again and go select some tiles and other finishes. We should have revised drawings as well as the plumbing schematics next week.

We’re getting excited and can’t wait for construction to start. It now looks like the house will not be finished until around the middle of 2008.

Hi Camille, our architect is Delfin del Busto from 8 Grados arquitectura . He did his Master’s degree in Spain and worked in the USA for a few years before going back to Panama.

The going fee for an architect to do the entire design from scratch, according to your specs and to take best advantage of your lot, is 6 to 8% of the budgeted value of the house. I highly recommend you go this route, as you will probably be happier in the end.

If you come with an existing plan and just want to get a certified Panamanian architect to produce the required drawings, it should cost you somewhere between $1500 and $3000 depending on the complexity of the residence.
