Our fascination with beauty

Why is our society so fascinated with beauty? When JonBenet Ramsey was murdered back in 1996, it was a sad event for sure, but did that event deserve to dominate the mass media for years? Would a less beautiful child have gotten the same attention? Of course not, children are killed every day in America and we barely hear about them, but why? Is a less beautiful child worth any less then JonBenet? Wouldn’t any child deserve just as much love and affection? Wouldn’t any child’s death deserve as much attention?
Now, ten years later, she’s back all over the airwaves again. I fail to see how her case deserves so much attention, and I really do not understand why she should be all over the Canadian airwaves and newsprint.
